Queen Victoria Memorial Clocktower

Penang has many beautiful landmarks. But if we are not careful, they will end up surrounded by ugly, badly designed structure.

For more information about this clocktower, please go to the link HERE.

St. George's Church

This is a very important landmark of Penang. For detail history of this church please follow the link HERE.

Goddess of Mercy Temple (Kuan Yim teng)

Old buildings are like brandy, the older they get, the better they taste. This temple is more than 200 years old. It is going through some restoration. I hope it retains its original taste.

Beach Street Fire Station

I have known this building since I was young. In those days, I was more interested in the fire engines than the building. In recent years, I see only the beauty of the design of this building. I have changed.

For more information about this fire station, the link is HERE.

Suffolk House

If you visit Suffolk House, don't forget to admire the trees outside. These tress make the place more beautiful.

Khoo Kongsi

Khoo Kongsi

If you visit Khoo Kongsi, you should spend time to appreciate the details of its decorations. Only then can you understand why this building is so beautiful. For an artist, the trick is not to record the details (a camera can do that better), but to create an impression that expresses the beauty of the decorations.

Standard Chartered Bank Building

Artline Pen on acid free art paper (230 X 320 mm). Unframed.

In this sketch, I tried to capture the visual contrast of the Standard Chartered Bank Building and the Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower. The bank building is solid and strong while the clock tower is delicate and elegant. The former was built in 1930 and the later was commissioned in 1897. You can see these two buildings at upper Beach Street, Penang.

 A detail of the sketch.

Nagore Durgha Sheriff

Artline pen on art paper. (280 X 210 mm) Framed.

As a wheelchair user, it is sometime too troublesome for me to get down from the car to take photo. I was interested in this Nagore Shrine (more information about this place from the link HERE) and tried to look for a location where I could take photos from my car. I found the location at Lorong Pit. (See the map below.)

Full View Of Hean Boo Thean Temple (玄母殿)

Pencil on acid free art paper (230 X 320 mm). Unframed.

I wanted to sketch the full view of Hean Boo Thean. But when I visited the place, I discovered that I had to go through many alleys and lanes none of which offered any full view. In the end, I found from penang-traveltips.com (the link is HERE) that one of the locations to have a full view is from the Tan Jetty reclaimed land. The sketch above was based on a photo taken from there.

A detail portion of the sketch is presented below.

My First Solo Show

I had my first solo show in 1998. It was held at Dato' Dr Tan Chee Khuan's The Art Gallery Penang. Here are some photos that may interest the readers of this blog.

The above are from my catalogue. The rest are photos taken during the opening ceremony.
